I began working as a staff nurse at St. Christopher’s Hospice from 1969, therefore in its infancy. I observed the development of palliative care and witnessed how Cicely's ideals changed the journey from life to death for all those coming to the hospice. I met the most wonderful people both staff from all over the world and patients. Those years were contented, fulfilled years and the memories and training will be with me forever.

I was confirmed in the chapel with two patients and had my marriage blessed later. I took a diploma in palliative care in 1997 and a BSc in Clinical Practice in 2000 so you are never too old!!

My favourite time was Christmas I loved the candles we placed in the windows of the wards to lighten the way for the carol singers. The main lights were off and I shared those magical moments with the patients. Most certainly their last Christmas. I can see them now in my mind.

My picture is taken where I sit and relax. It has a Christmas feel with the angel. She was a special lady who I was privileged to work along side.
